Thomas Borgognon

Nice to meet you, I'm Thomas Borgognon, développeur web & apps

Thomas Borgognon

A true product of Geneva, Thomas is a developer and co-founder of O’Matic. Passionate about technology from a young age, he decided to forge his own path and develop both small and large applications, all with passion.

In a nutshell, what is your job?

I like to say that my job is to ‘make the abstract concrete’: I take lines of code (abstract to the average person) and transform them into something visual (concrete).

Where are you from?

I grew up and was educated in Geneva, notably at the CREA school where I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in web and applications. Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, I have always dreamed of having my own business. That’s why, as soon as I had the opportunity, I decided to dive into the Geneva web scene!

Since I was 16, as a self-taught individual, I have gravitated towards websites and digital products where I have been able to contribute my skills as a technical expert. My passion for technology naturally led me to the world of apps, which I create in my spare time to meet everyday needs.

What is your role in O’Matic?

I take care of all the technical stuff! Front-end, back-end, HTML, CSS, JS, PHP, TypeScript (and so on) are my daily activities!
If you don’t see me behind my favourite code editor developing or testing new things, you’ll probably find me jotting down new project ideas or browsing the web to find the latest innovations to bring to yours!

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I have always been interested in how things work and, above all, in the needs they fulfil. Successfully developing applications on my own is a way for me to meet needs that have not yet been satisfied.

I can’t go a day without thinking about a new project! Web development, and especially app development, allows me to create without ever getting bored.

What is your vision for O’matic?

My primary goal is more of a UX (user experience) goal, as I want to develop in order to meet needs and address shortcomings in everyday life by providing tailor-made solutions.

My second goal is to design applications under the O’Matic banner to meet needs… Wait, I’m repeating myself a bit, aren’t I? As you can see, I love creating applications and websites, while respecting the values that are important to me: localism (no need to go across the Atlantic to find good services), economy (not everything that is good and beautiful has to be expensive), respect for data (GAFAM doesn’t need to know everything)…

What are your values?

I share pretty much the same values as Chloé. Is that the very reason why O’Matic was created?

To begin with, I would say that my greatest asset is passion, if that can be considered one. Creating with passion allows me to take an interest in all projects, whatever they may be, providing a solution that suits them, while enjoying my work.

Secondly, my desire to do well (and perhaps my Swiss side) encourages me to be transparent. I didn’t choose my profession to get rich, but because I wanted to share useful information. I would much rather explain to my clients how they could optimise their products than send them a hefty bill!

Finally, the values that bring everything together are humanity and ethics. I don’t necessarily want to be the best, because once you’re the best, the only way is down. I’m interested in everything, especially the person in front of me. If you call on me, I’ll ask you lots of questions (your choice) about when/why/where/how… you came up with your idea and your need.
My goal is not to grow my portfolio with a plethora of projects, but to create meaningful achievements, whatever they may be.
