Why should you redesign your website?
Anyone or any company with a website knows that it is often at the heart of their business. With an attractive, well-designed website, customers will flock to your services and products, but with an outdated or poorly designed website… You will quickly find yourself with the same effect as a dusty shop window that scares visitors away without them even realising it.
Over time, technologies evolve and user expectations increase… And you quickly find yourself at a loss as to where to start. Should you revamp your website or not, and above all: ‘Why should you revamp your website?’
1. Redesign your website, as it no longer meets user expectations.
We have seen this happen with a client we have been working with for several years: their visitors’ expectations have changed. What worked five years ago during the COVID period no longer works today.
The main reason for this change is a 60% increase in mobile traffic on the web. For a B2C target audience in e-commerce, the change is striking: more people are coming from social media, and the experience must reflect this, even if it means making significant changes to your website:
- Check text sizes
- Check positions on mobile devices
- Check that mobile components are functioning correctly (scroll, etc.)
- Check the overall experience
For our client, the proportion of mobile visits has gone from a 50/50 split (mobile/computer) five years ago to a 70/30 split in just two years. Although the site has been responsive (adapting to screen size) from the outset, the shopping experience had to be redesigned to give its target audience greater confidence. We therefore worked on a whole section dedicated to reassurance, which had to be implemented on social media (of course), but also on the website, where testimonials now play a more important role than before.
This example mainly resulted in visual improvements. However, redesigning your website is not something to be taken lightly; you need to ensure that it reflects your brand.
2. Redesign your website because it no longer aligns with your brand image or your needs have changed.
The redesign of your website should not be prompted solely by outdated visuals or an experience that needs to be reviewed. The change can be much more profound.
As they say, the cobbler’s children have no shoes! And that’s certainly true in our case! Our website is now just over two years old (launched in September 2023). Although we have been making adjustments from time to time to improve the browsing experience, we decided that we needed to revamp our image and adapt our website accordingly.
As I write these lines, we are working behind the scenes on a new, more professional version that is better suited to our message and our ‘us’, what we want to convey.

We are reviewing our image on the web, as well as our overall communication strategy, so that we can more easily keep content up to date (to avoid losing credibility) and also vary the media we use (to better showcase our expertise).
Response in the first quarter of 2026!
3. Redesign your website due to technical and security issues
We have seen it happen too many times: a website that is not maintained is vulnerable to multiple attacks. By redesigning your website, you can ensure greater stability and security.
In addition, you can also resolve numerous technical issues:
- Resolving SEO indexing issues
- Resolve compatibility issues (your integrations are updated, but your site is not, so you risk becoming out of sync one day… (although there are safeguards in place to prevent this!))
One of our clients (another one) came to us to improve their website, but without wanting a complete overhaul. Apart from updating all the integrations and extensions, we couldn’t do any more, but that was enough!
Often, you don’t have to look very far! Calling on a professional allows you to update and maintain your website before a more in-depth redesign if that is not enough.
4. Redesign your website, as it is no longer generating the expected results.
Let us return to our first client, who wanted to redesign their website to meet the expectations of their visitors.
Why did he come to this conclusion? Quite simply because several signs tipped him off:
- Declining conversion rates
- Traffic stagnant despite marketing efforts
Just like our client, redesigning your website allows you to improve your conversion rate and offer something new to your visitors.
But be careful! The redesign must be done properly! We have seen cases of internal website redesigns without professional intervention. In the case of a small business that is losing momentum, this is often the choice that is made. However, this is not necessarily the right choice.
During an internal redesign, certain features are dropped because they cannot be integrated with the resources available. And yet, these same features, although they may seem superfluous, prove to be of key importance (chatbot, store locator, product comparison, user journey, etc.).
Redesigning your website is good, but redesigning it well is even better! Otherwise, you may see your conversion rate drop even further…
5. Redesign your website, because your competitors have evolved
You may find yourself having to adapt to your sector and what your competitors are offering. By closely following what is published on their websites, you may gain new ideas for improvements to your own site (in the context of an e-commerce site, this could include adding a chatbot, personalisation, a new payment method, etc.).
Taking inspiration from your competitors allows you to stay up to date and adapt to what your visitors are seeing on a daily basis. If you lag too far behind, you will be perceived as unreliable, but if you blend in with the crowd (while still having your unique selling point that makes you memorable), you will achieve better conversion thanks to practices that have now become customary.
In our industry, we enjoy looking at our colleagues’ websites (we’re not competitors! Who would have thought?) because we can find new ideas for visuals and features to incorporate into our own website, but also into our clients’ websites!
A redesign is not a cost, but rather an investment to remain visible, credible and competitive.
You should not view the redesign of your website as a cost, but rather as a long-term investment.
If your website is no longer suitable for a variety of reasons, such as:
- User expectations not aligned
- Does not/no longer fit the brand image
- Change in brand or company requirements
- Safety
- Results down
… there is no need to wait to undertake a redesign, whether it is minor, involving the adjustment of a few sliders, or, when necessary, more extensive.
If you are still unsure…
