Body Analyser, iPad application for body monitoring
Body Analyser is an application designed for fitness centres, enabling them to monitor and assess their clients’ physical condition accurately. They called on O’Matic for support in terms of development, design and consulting to build the application concept.
Simple and quick branding
Body Analyser is an application available on request for sports and fitness centres, enabling them to monitor their customers’ body composition.
Building on an initial version based on calculations derived from measurements taken and entered into a custom-designed Excel document, Body Analyser called on O’Matic to develop its brand identity and iPad application.
The graphic identity (which was not initially a priority) was designed to be simple and accessible so that it could be adapted to different media (application and printed reports) and to best represent the key purpose of the application: body scanning.
A design thinking approach
Since the final form of the application was not clear, we implemented a design thinking approach that allowed us to iterate and test different versions with test centres.
In the initial version, the client wanted measurements to be taken by transferring measurements from a centimetre grid placed behind the people being measured, using several photos taken from the front and side.
Due to the difficulty of implementation on the part of the centres, we then worked on a second version using Apple’s ARKit (the application being for iPad only) for taking measurements.
The tests on these two versions were inconclusive, so we worked on a third, simpler version, which required filling in a few measurements to perform the calculations, similar to the original Excel document.
Solution: a bespoke application
The third version, with simplified measurement-taking, was the right one, offering greater speed and ease of use.
Following various tests carried out at the centres, the PDF report given to customers proved to be superfluous for those who were unable to keep track of their measurements without visiting the centre. We therefore recommended developing a secondary application for customers, enabling them to track the measurements taken at the centre and monitor their weight personally.
Complete support
As a key value of O’Matic, we supported Body Analyser from start to finish throughout their project: drafting specifications, iterating different versions, configuring iPads in centres (as the application is only available in a private store), user testing, etc.
Although the application was not maintained due to a reorientation of the company, it proved to be a real challenge in terms of design and ideation, both at the customer level and internally, through several sprints carried out over several months.
